Salt - St. John'S Lutheran Church

SALT for 2026 – 2027

Wednesdays after school from October 7, 2026 to May 19, 2027.

The SALT tutoring and mentoring program is a FREE ministry of St. John’s Lutheran Church.  We enjoy activities, snacks, and a variety of learning centers.  Our focus is on helping students improve their basic skills in reading, language arts, math, and writing.  Our focus is helping first and second grade students improve the things they are learning in school, such as telling time or understanding money.  Every SALT Day ends with a special devotion. Please contact Lesley in the Church Office at 507-533-4420 for more information.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for the 2026 – 27 SCHOOL YEAR! Yes, school starts in less than a month and that means our SALT – Step Ahead Learning & Tutoring program will also begin soon! What is SALT?  It is a free, once a week, after school service that offers tutoring, homework help, learning stations, games, devotions, and a snack for first and second grade students who enroll. Parents and the school district both have been very supportive and appreciative of the program in the past. We are excited to offer this Christian service and outreach program once again this year. SALT will be offered every Wednesday when school is in session from approximately 3 pm to 5 pm in the church fellowship hall. It begins Wednesday, October 7th and ends Wednesday, May 19th (end of the school year). What can you do to help with the SALT program?

  1. Please considervolunteering to be a SALT tutor, no formal training is needed. Can’t commit to be a tutor every Wednesday? Being willing to help once or twice a month as a tutor assists with the scheduling of volunteers each week, too.
  2. Be a SALTsnack providerMost likely this would be needed only 3, possibly 4, times over the course of the school year.
  3. Please keep the SALT program and all who are involved in it in your prayers for a successful school year!

Please feel free to contact Becky Fredricksen at her email [email protected] or by phone 507-251-0298 if you are interested in helping us out or have questions about the program.

  • Parent and student commitment to the program leads to success! Weekly attendance is expected.
  • Please let us know if your child will require bus transportation to the program after school.
  • Transportation is available from Bonner School via Grisim Bus for one of their tokens.
  • If your child will be absent, call the church office at 507-533-4420.
  • Parents, it is your responsibility to pick up your child by closing time. Pick your child up promptly at 5 pm as other church programs follow SALT.
